not quite 10k, base models go for around 22-24k, i got my Z for 27.5k so its only a
$3-6difference. as far as not being in the same class. they both have 3.7 liter engines. but the Z makes more hp to the flywheel despite being the same displacement as the mustang. But the mustang does seem cheaper to maintain as it can rn on 87 octane fuel where as the Z only takes 91. and the Z is not perfect either, oil overheats easily at tracks and requires mods. enginewise Z is better

There is no such thing as a Mustang with equal handling to a ZR1. The only way you could do that is by taking a race car and slapping Mustang body panels on it. I like these new Mustangs. They are quite impressive and you could modify one to beat a ZR1 in a drag race. They still can't match the all-around package that is the ZR1 and there is nothing wrong with that because they aren't in the same class.

(races again about three weeks later)with a K&N CAI, runs slightly lower 12s at about 111/112mph. both times i beat my friend who drives a saleen mustang and also beat every ricer there and some other muscle cars. i only lost to one mustang who ran 9lbs of boost. i stayed on his doors though
